This summer our regular life groups are taking a break and we are inviting the whole church to join our special six-week summer series that starts this Thursday! We will all meet here at the church building on Thursdays at 7pm, worship together, and then break up into four different lifegroups, which you will hear more about shortly.

This all kicks off this Thursday, and for just this first week we will meet at 6pm for dinner together before worship starts at 7pm. So come on out for some good food and community!

VERO: Spanish LifeGroup

Thomas will be leading a joint lifegroup with James Yu from WestLA on The Bible and Affordable Housing. This group will be partial in-person and partial via zoom since it will include folks from both churches. The lack of affordable housing in Los Angeles is a massive crisis that has serious physical and spiritual implications, both for us individually, but also our whole neighborhood and city. Come join us to learn about:

• God’s heart for housing throughout Scripture
• Some of the history as to how we got in this mess
• What changes are needed to actually make a difference?
• What unique strengths our churches can bring to the table to try to solve the problem?”

ALICIA AND CHASE: “In scripture we are commanded to love God and love others — but what does that mean practically? What if we are set off by the same arguments? What if we see the same patterns in relationship after relationship, or we feel stuck in our relationship with God? For six weeks, we are going to learn about how we love. Join us to work out How We Love God and People!”

We have a local election on tomorrow and Thomas and James have collaborated with folks from both our churches to research candidates. As a church we do not have candidates we promote, we simply gather facts so that we can make informed decisions. Our spreadsheet can be found below:

Lastly, next week we are going to be hosting a joint service with WestLA! They will be joining us here for service and for lunch afterwards. Please note that service will start early at 11:00am. Don’t miss this time to fellowship with our sister church and enjoy delicious food together!

Who is attending the church retreat? Pick up an information packet with all the details you need to know to prepare and pack. I do want to make note of a few things: 1) Dinner on Friday will not be provided, so make sure to eat before you arrive. 2) The earliest you can check-in at the camp is 5:00 pm. So if you drive earlier in the day to miss traffic, you can hang out in the Redlands area before driving up the mountain to the camp.

We want to remind our church family that we have an ongoing mutual aid effort. If you have a need or a situation that our church family can help you through, or if you are able to offer help to someone else, please let us know by visiting newlifelh.com/#help or by reaching out to a trusted leader at our church.

Last week Chris gave us the challenge to explore different ways to serve our church. If you didn’t have a chance to sign up to serve in a ministry, we will have the giant post-its with more information on the church patio after service.
